Rosalia is the beloved patron saint of Palermo and she lived in this grotto in the years around 1130 and 1170 during the reign of the Normans. Every year in two occasions Palermo celebrates the patron saint. In the five days up to the 15th of July with a big city feast and on the 4th of September, when many inhabitants of Palermo wander up to the grotto following the old pilgimage path.
